Get into the directories that count
Not all citations are equal. A listing on Google, Apple Maps and a respected industry directory is worth more than a hundred spammy 'free business listing' sites. Chase the ones that actually feed Google and get seen by customers.
The non-negotiables
Start with the platforms Google and the AIs actually read: Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Maps, and the big review platforms for your area. These are the backbone, get your NAP perfect on each. Missing from Apple Maps alone means every iPhone user asking Siri 'near me' can't find you.
Then the ones with real authority in your niche
Add the directories that matter for your trade and your town: your local chamber of commerce, trade associations, respected regional listings, the sites people in your area actually use. A relevant, trusted local citation carries far more weight than a generic global one, and it can send real referral traffic too.
List the directories and citation sites worth being on for my industry and location, ranked by authority and local relevance, and flag which I'm missing.
