Why one local link beats ten random ones
Links are still one of the biggest local ranking factors, a real chunk of what decides the pack. But for a local business the rules are different: a single link from a trusted site in your town is worth more than a pile of generic links from anywhere on earth.
Relevance and place beat raw count
Google reads a link as a vote, but for local it also reads where the vote comes from. A link from your local chamber of commerce, a regional newspaper, or a well-known business in your town carries a geographic and topical signal that a random blog never will. It says: this business is part of this community.
And the AIs read them too
The same trusted local links that lift you on Google also make you a safer name for AI to recommend, they're part of the web agreeing that you exist and matter locally. Quality links do double duty here, just like reviews.
Analyse my backlinks and my top local competitors', and tell me which local, relevant links they have that I'm missing.
